I was sure surprised at how easily Weber was able to throw the ball downfield against the Utes in the first quarter. I don't know if the DBs were still in Air Force mode or what, but they were getting caught out of place and got burned several times early. They seemed to stiffen up after Weber State scored, but for a while there I was floored.

The Utes' second team DBs were abysmal. They got lit up for about 150 yards on two drives late in the game that made the game appear closer than it was. I wasn't happy about that at all. They let Weber convert long third downs that should have been stopped. Whit was even disappointed in their performance after the game. If we want to compete with the big dawgs, we need to be able to say that our 2s are decent. Depth is important. But the 2s looked very lackluster against a Championship Subdivision (I-AA) team. Not good.

I agree the 2s were horrible. The secondary definitely played a horrible game overall.

We will need to play very well this week if we are to pull off the victory over Oregon State. If they continue what they did in the Weber State game, we're in for a long and disappointing game.

no first quarter sleepwalking

Well, the secondary continued their woes against Oregon State. The front 7 did their job on run defense holding the Beavers to just 92 yards on the ground, but our secondary gave up 313 yards in the air.

The front 7 can be blamed for 2 screens that went for big yardage, but overall...our pass defense needs to improve.
