![]() Stuart Johnson / Deseret Morning News Another great rivalry game came and went at Lavell Edwards Stadium. At the beginning of the weak, no one would have though that this game would have been a defensive struggle. This is exactly what it turned out to be. BYU led at halftime 3-0 and the score at the end of the third quarter was 6-3 in favor of the Cougars. Both offenses had the opportunity to blow the game wide open, but both failed on a number of opportunities. BYU moved the ball against the Ute defense all day, but due to the Utah's special teams play, BYU had to drive on long field almost every possession. The fourth quarter provided more offensive spark for both
teams and Utah
scored their only touchdown of the game on a 1 yard run by Darrel Mack with
1:34 left to play, giving the Utes a 10-9 lead. BYU began their final drive of the game on Utah's 20 yard line. Following a sack on 1st down and two incomplete passes, BYU needed to convert on 4th and 18. Max Hall was able to avoid the initial rush by the Ute defenders and converted on a 49 yard pass to Austin Collie. The drive continued and concluded with a 11 yard touchdown run by Harvey Unga. BYU converted the 2 point conversion to take a 17-10 lead with 23 seconds to play. Utah was unable to convert on a hail mary pass on the last play of the game and BYU pulled off the 17-10 victory over the Utes. |
